For many military families, answering the common question of “Where are you from?” or “Where is home?” is not an easy task. A military family could start their journey on the west coast in Comox, British Columbia and then find themselves posted to Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador on the east coast. With every posting comes the opportunity to plant roots anywhere! But how would you describe ‘home’ when you have lived in so many places across Canada? For most, the simple answer is “Canada is home!”
With this in mind, the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) is pleased to host its 16th annual Invisible Ribbon Gala: CANADA.
Join us as we celebrate the true north, strong and free and toast to military families from coast to coast!
While the COVID-19 pandemic put our community to the test, it has also shown unparalleled strength. Our healthcare workers, military members and all other frontline workers were called to step up and wrap their arms around their communities in times of need.
Whether it was assisting in long-term care facilities or helping distribute the vaccine to remote communities in the north, they answered the call to action. The leaps and bounds we’ve made as a country have only been made possible through all of their collective efforts.
Whether you are a military member or a community member, we’ve all had a part to play in this ongoing narrative - now it’s your turn to help us write the next chapter.
Due to the unique challenges and moves of the military lifestyle, service families are often at a higher disadvantage when obtaining a primary care physician. There is even a common misconception that military families receive health care through their CAF base.
To offset this challenge, the Trenton MFRC has made a goal to create sustainable health care solutions for military families. To achieve this, we identified a short-term and a long-term approach which includes developing partnerships with health care officials and regional health agencies. In the short-term, the Trenton MFRC’s aim is to support military families by facilitating access to virtual health care tools that could help with their immediate health concerns.
This year, for the first time, the Invisible Ribbon Gala will air straight to your living room. After all, there’s no place like home.
It will be more than just an evening of community philanthropy. It will be an opportunity to raise awareness of the strength behind the uniform – the strength of our military families. The unique challenges faced by military families can have an impact on the operational effectiveness of a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member; which is why we at the Trenton MFRC are dedicated to going above and beyond to ensure military families have the resources they need.
Whether you are a local, live in a different city or even different coast, we invite you to join us on Saturday, May 8, 2021, to help us fundraise for military families!
