Pathways to Independence is hiring 7 Full Time Support Workers, Dual Diagnosis who will work as a member of the support team to enhance the social, leisure and daily living activities of clients with a dual diagnosis. Under the direction of the Client Services Manager, the Support Worker, Dual Diagnosis (DD) supports adults living with dual diagnosis, mental health, behavioural challenges and those involved in forensic services in accordance with the person’s individual Quality of Life Plan.  The Support Worker, DD assists with activities such as homemaking, personal care, community and personal development skills in accordance with the person’s Quality of Life Plan and other directives, as required.  The Support Worker, DD, will implement established strategies and behaviour management plans under the general directions of the Manager and Counsellor, DD.  The Support Worker, DD, ensures that the person’s services and supports promote their rights, choices, self-determination, independence and builds personal and community living skills.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications, skills and abilities:

• Secondary school graduation and a minimum one year post-secondary certificate in Human or Health Services (Personal Support Worker or equivalent).
• Current Crisis Prevention certification; Safety Care Certification preferred;
• Continuing education in dual diagnosis, behaviour management or mental health an asset
• Current First Aid and CPR;
• Valid G class driver’s licence;
• Must be able to promote, participate, and contribute to a positive and supportive team environment;
• Provide effective services and supports to people with a dual diagnosis.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility;
• Experience demonstrating a client centred philosophy
• Ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems in a professional manner;
• Excellent written & oral communication skills;
• Ability to advocate on behalf of the client.

Experience with challenging behaviours and behavioural interventions, positive behaviour support plans, and supporting adults with a dual diagnosis, mental health or other cognitive impairments in a residential, community or independent living environment is preferred. The successful candidate must be able to perform the job duties as outlined in the job description, including:

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications, abilities and skills:
• Post-secondary diploma or degree from a human services field and specialized education, training or certification in developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, mental health, disability studies, behaviour intervention, social work or psychology;
• Ability to provide effective services and supports to supported persons;
• Ability to manage and maintain accurate client information and documentation;
• Ability to participate and ensure a positive team environment;
• Ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems in a professional manner;
• Knowledge of Justice and Social Services systems, services and supports;
• Current Crisis Prevention certification; Safety Care certification preferred;
• Recognized pharmacology course is an asset;
• Current CPR and First Aid; and
• A valid G class driver’s licence.
